Who made how much this
awards season?
The Bollywood
awards season
that kicks off in
early January and
continues till mid-
February each
year is a very
rewarding time,
especially for the
Bollywood top brass.
A top actress casually remarked,
“ There is huge excitement if you
have a nomination. But even
otherwise it is a paying time
because you can earn mega-
bucks on your performances at
the various award nights. ”
Actually that is when TOI stopped
to ponder and discovered that
Shah Rukh Khan, Katrina Kaif,
Priyanka Chopra, Aishwarya Rai
Bachchan, Salman Khan, Kareena
Kapoor and Anushka Sharma
were the superstars most-in-
demand this award season.
Ranbir Kapoor, Ranveer Singh,
Imran Khan and Sonakshi Sinha
were also approached by
organisers to display their fresh
stage magic. However, these
youngsters were passed up for
the bigger names at some award
shows because of the lack of
availability of dates or budget
constraints.
One of the organisers says,
“ Every institution that hosts
awards wanted SRK to perform.
He was the most handsomely
paid actor in 2011. SRK ’s energy
on stage is unmatchable. Salman
was also a rage because of the
Dabangg factor. ”
While the men still called the
shots as far as payments and
conditions go, Katrina ’s Sheila Ki
Jaawani was the toast of the
season. Every channel that was
the co-sponsor at the various
awards functions was keen to
have Kat seducing their viewers
with Sheila.
Priyanka who is publicising her
forthcoming release and has
become an expert at doing
multiple characters was either an
emcee or a performer.
Aishwarya, who gets paid the
maximum amount amongst the
heroines to perform her regular
medley of songs, was also in
demand because she had five
releases in 2010.
Kareena who is basking in the
Golmaal-3 glory and has the best
projects this year is also a hot
favourite.
A trade source says, “One of the
reasons why actors prefer not to
travel for film shootings in the
months of Jan-Feb is because
they know there is a lot of money
to be made dancing at the award
nights. ”
